Outreach
We are regularly involved in several missions, both locally and globally. For more missions supported by the United Church of Christ, go to www.ucc.org. For more information about the missions we support in our greater community, go to the Greater Community page.
The ‘Midnight Run’ is an ongoing ecumenical mission program working to serve the needs of the homeless poor in New Haven throughout the year. Many area organizations share in this mission by joining in “The Run” one day a month and distributing donated food and clothing. North Branford volunteers gather at the church around 7:00 pm on the third Monday of each month to load up cars and make the trip to New Haven with stops on the Green and a men’s shelter on Grand Avenue. If you think you might be interested in helping either with your time or donations, contact Marcia Duenkel at 481-0497.
For many years NBCC has supported this shelter in Fairhaven, CT, sanctuary and help for many families, with donations of food, clothes, toys and child-specific Christmas packages.
Right by the back door of the Sanctuary jug sits on the floor marked Pennies from Heaven. Spare change dropped in here helps fund supplies for the Midnight Run mission.
For the last two years, our youth group has participated in the 30 Hour Famine, a national event to raise awareness and money to help children around the world who go to bed hungry every night. World Vision, a Christian organization that puts on the 30 Hour Famine, assists kids everywhere from right here in America to places on the other side of the world like Africa and China. World Vision provides food, health care, education, builds medical centers, helps parents to get jobs, brings clean water into communities and most important of all, they share the love of Jesus Christ with the communities by building churches and giving out copies of the Bible. Our group has raised $1,420 to contribute to World Vision’s efforts.
Heifer International was founded in 1938 by Dan West as a sustainable, long-term solution to hunger. This organization provides animals and help to the poor in nations around the world. Our church has participated in this mission for many years, and will for many years to come. For more information, go to www.heifer.org.
